    There’s simply no other way to say it: simply put, Benjamin is ดื้อ (deu, with a falling tone), the Thai word for stubborn and determined. But to my understanding, when applied to a child, the better translation is “willful”.

    Poor Annie, she’d be crying with frustration and exhaustion if she weren’t so proud of him.
